Knowing just a little about organ and tissue donation and the Driven2SaveLives program is a great place to start. This section can be your reference guide as you begin talking about donation and your decision to save lives with your friends, family and community.

Just ONE organ donor can save EIGHT lives!

Just ONE tissue donor can heal up to 75 people.

Kidneys are the most needed and the most transplanted organ.

Anyone, no matter their age, health, or how much fun they have on the weekends, can sign up to be an organ donor.

More than 100,000 people are currently waiting on the national transplant waiting list. More than 1,200 of them live in the state of Indiana.

You can sign up to be an organ donor when you renew or get your driver’s license or learner’s permit, at Driven2SaveLives.org
and through the Health App on your iPhone.

The organs that can be donated are lungs (2), heart, liver, pancreas, small intestine and kidneys (2).

Your main job as a Driven2SaveLives Ambassador is to get out there and talk about why you believe in this cause! Start the conversation and encourage people to get the facts at Driven2SaveLives.org.

MYTH

If I am a registered organ donor, a doctor might not save me if I get seriously injured.

FACT

If I sign up to be an organ and tissue donor, medical professionals will still make every effort to save my life.

MYTH

They wouldn’t want my organs, I am not healthy enough.

FACT

Anyone can sign up to be an organ and tissue donor, regardless of age or medical history.

MYTH

It’s important to me to have an open casket funeral, so I can’t be an organ donor.

I can still have an open-casket funeral if I become an organ and tissue donor.

I don’t think my church will support organ donation.
